The National Museum of Civil War Medicine honors the history of the African Americans that served in the American Civil War by mounting its latest exhibit: “Binding Wounds, Pushing Boundaries: African Americans in Civil War Medicine”. The exhibit was developed and produced by the National Library of Medicine with research assistance from the Historical Society of Washington, DC.

The visitor center will feature an exhibit on slavery and slave resistance at L’Hermitage, home to the second largest enslaved population in Frederick County in 1800. The exhibit will explore the lives of those who were enslaved at L’Hermitage and sought freedom, including artifacts taken from excavations of the slave village. 8:30am-5pm

Creativity and experimentation (or maybe just plain trial and error) have taught us that we can diversify when pairing wines with locally produced foods. We have selected a variety of local cheeses and baked goods for our January tasting. The cheeses to be sampled will include Swiss Cheese, Munster Cheese, Cheddar Cheese, Vegetable Colby Cheese, Chesapeake Cheese and Tomato - Basil Cheese.
